01/29/2022 Afghanistan (International Christian Concern) – Human Rights Watch published a report about the restrictions in Ghazni Province of Afghanistan. The Taliban’s grip on Afghanistan comes with archaic changes that violate the freedom of women and students. Under the rule of the Radical Islamic group, schools have closed, the curriculum has changed to favor Islam, and women are commanded how to dress and behave.
There is no room to practice any other faith aside from Islam. The curriculum in the schools that have remained open has shifted to religious studies. Physical education and art classes were deemed a waste of time and replaced with classes about Islam. There are no longer women’s secondary schools, meaning girls will go to primary school to learn about Islam before being resigned to a submissive role in the world that the Taliban has made.
Women are not allowed to leave the house without a male escort and must adhere to a strict dress code. Unmarried women are pressured to marry so that they may have some semblance of freedom to move. Women in the workforce have changed the way they dress and act to avoid Taliban abuse. Teachers discarded their uniforms for burqas. Hospital workers were gathered to be taught how to conduct themselves around their male colleagues.
Violence against Christians is common, especially with the influence the radical leaders have on the territory. The militaristic emphasis of Islam in the country has made it even more dangerous for Christians who cannot flee.
