Turkey Removes Posters Targeting Christians, Jews

10/27/2019 Turkey (International Christian Concern– Turkish authorities from Konya have removed posters that targeted Christians and Jews, following public outcry.

The posters popped up at bus stops in the city and cited a verse of the Quran that warns Muslims “do not take the Jews and Christians as allies”. When the posters were reported as hateful to religious minorities, Turkish authorities removed the remaining signs.

While many are relieved to see the posters gone and it’s a step in the right direction, little significant improvement has been made for religious minorities in the country. Konya is one of Turkey’s most culturally conservative cities, where the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) won by over 70%. The Middle East representative for Christian Solidarity Worldwide claims that it is not just a governmental problem but a societal problem.
