New Government to Withdraw “False Cases” Against Muslims and Christians in India

01/23/2019 India (International Christian Concern) – The new state government of Madhya Pradesh in India says it will be withdrawing what it calls “false cases” of forced conversions against Christians and Muslims. The new ruling Congress Party claims these cases were brought by the previous government, ruled by the BJP, out of a political vendetta against minorities.

We have decided to withdraw all ‘false cases’, which were politically motivated, included those registered against Muslims and Christians, by the previous BJP government,” Law Minister PC Sharma told the Times of India. The minister went on to explain that the Congress government wants to specifically withdraw all cases of forced conversions claiming these charges were misplaced.

False accusations of forced conversion are often used by Hindu radicals in India to harass and imprison Christian pastors and evangelists. In many cases, the accusation of forced conversion is used as a justification for assault.

While this announcement by the new state government in encouraging, Christians in India will have to wait and see if the Congress Party follows through on this promise.
