Christian Woman Left in a State of Shock Following Assault in India

08/07/2021 India (International Christian Concern) – According to Morning Star News, a Christian family in India’s Punjab state was brutally attacked by a Sikhs in late-June. As a result of the attack, a 24-year-old Christian woman has remained in a state of shock for more than a month.

On June 20, Meenu Kaur Tank and her family were attacked by a family of Sikhs in Ghawaddi village, located in the Ludhiana District of Punjab. During the attack, Meenu was choked, beaten, and partially stripped by her attackers and remains in a state of shock.

Meenu is unable to come out of shock,” Harpeet Kaur Tank, Meenu’s sister, told Morning Star News. “She has lost her appetite and hardly talks. The assailant caught my sister from the throat and pressed it so hard, almost choking her to death. She fell unconscious.

In addition to choking Meenu, Morning Star News reports the assailants beat Meenu and partially stripped her. They also reviled her for being a Christian.

The doctors said that she is in a state of shock and thus has lost her voice,” Pastor Vishnu Dev told Morning Star News. “It took almost a month for her to begin to speak.

According to Morning Star News, the attack on Meenu and her family was instigated by the parking of a car. Manjeet Singh, identified as Meenu’s attacker, reportedly confronted Meenu and her family as they returned home from a worship service to complaint about a car that had been parked near a Sikh temple.

Even though the Christian family agreed to move the car, Singh became enraged and began assaulting the Christians.

Police initially refused to register a complaint against Singh. However, a complaint was officially registered after local Christian leaders intervened. Singh has been charged in connection with the assault, however, local Christians claim the actions taken again Singh and his family have been mild due to political connections.
