03/08/2021 Syria (International Christian Concern) – A Syrian Kurdish believer was released on March 1 after being held by an Islamist group tied to the Syrian National Army for seven months, according to a recent report by CSW.
Muhammad worked as a teacher and headmaster before his detainment and was arrested after he did not relinquish the school to the group to be turned into an Islamic school. Turkish backed-Failaq Al-Sham accused Radwan Muhammad of apostasy and arrested him on July 30.
Muhammad served his seven months’ detainment in Afrin, located in northwest Syria. In Syria’s north, Turkish-backed forces control the region and operate under Turkish direct command via the Syrian National Army. Afrin itself was captured by the Turkish army in March 2018 and since then its residents have faced detainment, torture, looting, and confiscation of property and schools. Turkey’s actions in the region show little regard for human rights and humanitarian law, persecuting Christians and minorities.
