Boko Haram has been increasing the kidnapping of Christian aid workers in Northern Nigeria and has executed many in the past year. This includes the executions of 11 aid workers in December 2019, on Christmas eve. This abduction also comes amid calls by groups to designate the killings in Nigeria by Boko Haram and Fulani militants as Genocide.

The conflicts in Nigeria have taken as many as 60,000 lives over the past decade. Many of those killed have been Christian farmers in the Middle Belt of Nigeria and Christian pastors and church members in Northern Nigeria.
