07/05/2020 Sudan (International Christian Concern) – A video was released this past week showing four aid workers from different large international aid organizations. In the video, the four captives named at least Action Against Hunger, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and REACH as the groups that they worked for. One of the individuals named Luka Filibus said called on his organization, IRC to save him and those with him. He said, “I am appealing to the International Rescue Committee to come and rescue me.”
Boko Haram has been increasing the kidnapping of Christian aid workers in Northern Nigeria and has executed many in the past year. This includes the executions of 11 aid workers in December 2019, on Christmas eve. This abduction also comes amid calls by groups to designate the killings in Nigeria by Boko Haram and Fulani militants as Genocide.
The conflicts in Nigeria have taken as many as 60,000 lives over the past decade. Many of those killed have been Christian farmers in the Middle Belt of Nigeria and Christian pastors and church members in Northern Nigeria. The Church of the Brethren in Nigeria has a list of at least 8000 of its members who have been killed by Boko Haram in that same time frame.
