Two candidates nominated for WCC general secretary

The search committee appointed by the central committee to prepare the election of the next general secretary of the World Council of Churches met this week, and has informed the moderator of the central committee, Dr Agnes Aboum, about the results of their work. The position will be vacant as of 1 April 2020 since the present general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit, announced to the central committee in June 2018, that he would not stand for re-election for a third period after having served two five-year terms.

The search committee has, through its moderator Prof Dr Fernando Enns, informed the moderator of the central committee, that they have finished the search process and interviews, and concluded by consensus to propose two names to the central committee for the upcoming election of the next general secretary of the WCC.
