06/02/2019 Malaysia (International Christian Concern) – In an effort to counter growing terrorism threat in the country, the Bukit Aman Special Counter Terrorism Division in Malaysia has nabbed three terror suspects over the last two weeks.
According to Malaysia’s police chief Abdul Hamid Bador, the suspects – a Malaysian man and two foreigners – were arrested during an operation conducted by the Special Branch from May 24 to May 30.
The 42-year-old Malaysian was arrested at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on May 17 just as he was about to board a flight to Egypt to join the local IS cell there.
A 20-year old Indonesian man working as a labor in Sabah, who had pledged allegiance to Islamic State, was functioning as a middleman transiting fellow Indonesian IS supporters from Sabah into Southern Philippines. He had even funded Maute terrorists in that area, a group that laid siege on Marawi in October 2017.
A 28-year-old Bangladeshi man, who was working as an assistant vessel mechanic, was arrested with chemicals and is said to possess the expertise to produce improvised explosive devices. He is believed to be a sympathizer of the Bangladeshi IS faction.
Another Indonesian suspect is still at large, and the police is urging those with information to come forward and assist police investigations.
