The World Council of Churches (WCC) Assembly Planning Committee met on 27 January, building momentum toward the WCC 11th Assembly in Karlsruhe, Germany in September 2022.

The committee reviewed how we are planning for the assembly in the context of a global pandemic, including scenarios related to the number of participants that can be onsite if physical distancing is required, mitigation and risk management during the assembly, as well as the need to help participants comply with German health requirements.

As he opened the online meeting, Metropolitan Prof. Dr Gennadios of Sassima, vice-moderator of the WCC central committee and moderator of the Assembly Planning Committee, called for prayers for the many people involved in the preparations of the assembly at the local, regional and global levels.

During the meeting, the members fo the planning committee provided further feedback on thematic plenaries, particularly on methodologies, outlines and possible speakers. They also offered feedback on  the profile of assembly committee leadership.

The leadership of the Assembly Worship Planning Committee participated in the meeting, sharing an update on progress with the booklet, “Celebrate Christ’s Love!” This publication will offer a sample of songs, prayers and scripture readings that will be used during the assembly.

The group observed Thursdays in Black, gathering online for a photo to express solidarity for the global campaign for a world free from rape and violence.
