Warm congratulations and a sense of hope were extended from the World Council of Churches (WCC) to the new bishop of Landeskirche in Baden, Rev. Prof. Dr Heike Springhart.
In a congratulatory letter, (WCC) acting general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca expressed confidence in her experience and abilities even during challenging times.
“We are convinced that you will play a special role for the Landeskirche in Baden in these challenging times,” said Sauca. “Many difficult and challenging decisions lie ahead of you—be sure that our prayers will accompany you.”
Sauca reflected that Springhart was taking on a leadership role during a difficult and confusing life situation across the world.
“For your new task, I wish you that you will always experience this love of God and that you know that you are supported and that, in this certainty, you are there for others, that you can give new hope and open up new perspectives,” he said. “With your academic and pastoral qualifications, as well as international experiences in South Africa, Taiwan and the USA, we are convinced that the Landeskirche of Baden will be led by a responsible shepherd with foresight and compassion.”
Sauca added that he was looking forward to work with Springhart at the WCC 11th Assembly in Karlsruhe in 2022. “May God richly bless and strengthen you and your ministry in God’s mission as you take up this important mantle of leadership in this challenging time!” Sauca concluded.
