01/16/2019 India (International Christian Concern) – Church leaders in India’s eastern state of Odisha organized a public hearing on behalf of the Christian victims of the 2008 Kandhamal riots. At center stage of this meeting was the lack of justice and compensation received by victims despite the passage of ten years.
According to reports, more than 3,000 survivors of the violence gathered with church leaders and activists in a meeting held in Raikia, a town located in the Kandhamal district of Odisha.
Addressing the hearing, Father Ajaya Kumar Singh claimed that even after ten years the victims, their families, and survivors are still awaiting justice. According to Father Singh, not a single person who committed crimes against the Christian community in 2008 is behind bars.
Anti-Christian riots swept across the Kandhamal district in August 2008. The riots continued for almost three months and are still widely considered the worst instance of Christian persecution in India’s modern history.
