The Pacific Conference of Churches is inviting its member churches and friends to observe “40-Days of Hunger for Justice and Peace” for West Papua, Kanaky and Maohi Nui as well as the challenges facing the region. The time of prayer and fasting will be observed from 28 October through 6 December.

In a letter, Pacific Conference of Churches general secretary Rev. James Bhagwan described ongoing and escalating human rights abuses in West Papua, and invited people to forgo one meal each day for a 40-day period.

“We are calling for members to skip at least one meal a day to ‘hunger for justice and peace’ during these 40 days,” wrote Bhagwan. He also suggested setting aside each Wednesday to fast from sunrise to sunset during the 40-day period.

“Please join us as we ‘hunger for justice and peace’ and pray for our Pacific,” concluded Bhagwan.
