Pope Benedict XVI condoles over plane crush in Russia

Pope Benedict XVI of Rome prays for victims of a plane crash in Perm, reports Interfax-Religion.

"Having received tragic news about plane crash in the outskirts of Perm, the Supreme Pontific expresses his sympathy to relatives of victims and to the whole nation and prays for the rest of their souls," a telegram the Vatican's State Secretary Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone sent on behalf the Pontific to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev says.

The telegram also says that the Catholic head prays to the Holy Virgin for granting heavenly consolation "to those who grieve over loss of their relatives."

A passenger jet Boeing-737 of the Aeroflot-Nord executing flight №821 from Moscow crashed in Perm around 3:15 a.m. on Sunday. Over 88 people on board were killed.
