Famed pro-life Canadian priest receives death threat

A famed Canadian pro-life priest who has witnessed to the sanctity of life on Parliament Hill every day that Parliament has sat since September 1989, had a harrowing brush with violence last week, reports Patrick B. Craine, LifeSiteNews.com.

At around 10:15 am on Tuesday, May 11th, as Rev. Anthony van Hee stood on the Hill with his pro-life signs, as he has on countless days over the last two decades, a man identified as Malcolm Miller, 53, approached and told the priest that he would kill him if he was still there at noon.

The priest informed the police of the threat, but when Miller did not return at noon, the authorities gave Fr. van Hee a number to call if he came back.

Miller did return later in the afternoon, at which point he threatened to break Fr. Van Hee's legs and kill him.

Fr. Van Hee attempted to call the police number, but there was no answer. While the priest was making the phone call, Miller demanded to know whom he was calling and attempted to grab his signs. The potentially explosive situation was defused after Miller began shouting and swearing, and attracted the police's attention.

Cst. Jean Paul Vincelette of the Ottawa police told LifeSiteNews that the police were called to the scene Tuesday at 12:09 p.m. and subsequently arrested Miller. He has been charged with entering a premise when entry was prohibited under the Trespass to Property Act, and with intoxication in a public place under the Liquor License Act.

Cst. Vincelette said he was not at liberty to explain the trespass charge, but noted that "that offense would suggest that he had been told previously not to be on the property."
