The temporary release of an Armenian Iranian from the Evin Prison
Vahik Abrahamian, an Armenian Christian, who was arrested unexpectedly and detained for 53 days in a solitary cell at the Evin Prison, without access to a lawyer or any of his family members, was released temporarily, reports FCNN.
According to the Farsi New Network (FCNN) , "Vahik Abrahamian", an Armenian Christian was released from his solitary conferment at the Evin Prison at 9:00 pm on April 24, 2010 after spending a total of 53 days in detention. He had to post a ten million tooman bond for his release and return to court for legal hearings surrounding the charges filed against him.
Vahik Abrahamian, who is 44 years old, was arrested along with his wife when they were returning from the home of a friend by plain clothes security officers. His wife was released immediately, but Vahik first searched and then taken away by the government agents.
The arrest of this Christian man, who is dual citizen of Iran and the Netherlands, caused great shock and concern among his friend and acquaintances. He had voluntarily returned to Iran to serve his people as a social worker and to demonstrate the love of God to them.
FCNN has learned from several of Vahik's friends that he was working with drug addicts and was helping them to be freed from such addictions through spiritual counseling and guidance. His friends testify that he has never engaged in any anti-government activities and all his activities have had spiritual dimensions that have focused on helping those in severe addictions.
Its noteworthy to mention that Vahik has spent almost 2 months in solitary confinement without access to any lawyer or any family member and as of yet it is not clear what charges have been filed against him. He was however instructed, at the time of his release, that he must be present himself at the court once the date for hearings were set by the judiciary.
FCNN has learned that the release of Vahik Abrahamain has caused great relief and joy among his family and friends as he has returned to his loved ones and those he has been helping through his spiritual counseling.
Those who have seen Vahik and his wife can see their faces speak of love and sincerity and one hopes that the government would take action to resolve this great misunderstanding and appreciate the great service this man is offering to many who are captive in serious addictions like drugs and alcohol.
We at FCNN do unite with everyone else in praying and wishing for a speedy resolution of this problem in the life of Vahik Abrahamian and his family. We invite all believers to raise their hands in prayer and to pray for all Christian prisoners who are awaiting their court dates in cities like Tehran, Shiraz, Mashhad, Isfahan, Qom, Rasht, and Tabriz.
