Ukrainian child education: State should cooperate with churches

Minister of Ukraine’s Education and Science Ivan Vakarchuk believes that the issue of introduction of Christian Ethics in general education schools should be further discussed, reports RISU. The minister stressed in his interview to the newspaper Den’ that “one cannot avoid in children’s education what humanity has achieved over thousands of years. However, it is not only the authorities’ but also the community’s role to express what exactly we understand by the notion of Christian Ethics. Ivan Vakarchuk stressed that education should be governed both by the state and the public. At the same time, he stressed: “It is clear that churches of any confession are separate from the state, but they are here, in the state, and the people attending church are Ukraine’s citizens. Therefore, we should understand that cooperation is needed for children’s education. The state should uphold its standards, but, at the same time, we should cooperate with churches of all confessions.”
