Church leaders express condolences after explosions in Moscow

Leaders of the Protestants churches in Russia gave their comments about the bomb explosions in Moscow on 29 March and expressed their condolences to the families of victims. It has become known this morning that 39 people were killed by the explosions at Moscow subway stations, reports Christian Telegraph with a link to invictory.org.

Konstantin Bendas

The first vice-chairman of Russian union of Christians of Evangelical faith bishop Konstantin Bendas noticed that when such tragedies happen there are usually many more victims: “There are those who worry about their family members, those who look after victims in hospitals, there are doctors who fight for lives of the victims… We are praying for families of the victims, that the Lord would comfort them because no human can take the pain of such loss away,” he said. “Also we as the church must continue to love people around us no matter what they think about us, because our love can change them. It is our love to each other, our honest ministry to those around us that opens Jesus Christ and His saving love to others. There is no other weapon against terrorism than prayer and ministry of love. And the Lord has called us to do it.”

Sergey Zolotarevskiy

Sergey Zolotarevskiy, pastor of the Moscow central church of evangelical Baptists, expressed his condolences in official note: “We mourn for the death of innocent people, we pray for their relatives and families. Our special prayer is for those who were injured during the explosions and those who are now living in fear and despair. We are praying for those who are trying to fight against the spread of evil and terrorism. May the Lord help our country in this dreadful trial.”

Igor Nikitin

The senior bishop of the Association of Christian churches “Union of Christians” Igor Nikitin said that the explosions just before Eater were an insult to believers. “People who have done such evil are monsters… With the other confessions we are praying for comfort for the families of the victims. Religious ministers should do everything possible to prevent provocations among the inter-confessional area, to prevent manipulation of people’s minds that push them toward such wrongdoings… We support leadership of our country in fight with the prevention of such tragedies.”
