Ministry starts initiative to bring Christ to the Mediterranean

Christianity’s roots lie in the nations surrounding the Mediterranean, yet today few of those living there know Christ, reports Operation Mobilisation UK. This summer, Operation Mobilisation (OM) is organising Transform 2010, a major initiative to bring the Good News back to the region. Hundreds of Christians from around the world are expected to take part, sharing their personal faith through sports programmes, DVD distribution, youth camps and much more.

Transform 2010 will begin with a training and preparation conference in Rome, Italy, from July 19 – 24. During these five days, the participants will receive training from OM workers who have considerable experience of proclaiming Christ in the nations that form the Mediterranean rim. This will include orientation in cross-cultural evangelism, and time will also be set aside for Bible studies and interceding for the region. The conference concludes with the participants heading to destinations as diverse as Spain, Israel, the Balkans and North Africa for a series of short-term outreaches lasting from two to six weeks.

Gary Witherall is responsible for the oversight and co-ordination of Transform 2010. He is passionate to see Christ proclaimed to the 450 million people in the 21 countries that border the Mediterranean. “The Gospel originated here, yet to most of the population the Cross remains a decorative symbol rather than a message to be understood,” he explains. “Transform 2010 is an opportunity for Christians who can volunteer a little time to bring their story, their experience, gifts and passion to reveal the Gospel in its original setting.”
