Authors of the statement say they do not encourage “to hunt homosexuals” nevertheless they are “vigorously opposed any public events that would promote any sexual perversion in any way”.
“We call on government to show wisdom and to prevent gay parades or any other similar blasphemous events under no circumstances,” it is said in the statement.
Pastor of the Christian church in St. Petersburg, Yury Snisarenko, said that churches should also react on such initiatives of homosexual activists. “We can put bans on homosexual parades but it would be much more useful to start educate our society,” said pastor Snisarenko. “And we should begin with churches, first of all. If we want to prevent such parades, if we want our society to understand the danger of such events that promote a specific culture and have a goal to establish it as a required fact, we need to educate our society.”
