Mission Aviation Fellowship provides aid for thousands in Haiti

Mission Aviation Fellowship had already been serving in Haiti for almost 25 years when the 7.0 earthquake hit. The ministry was therefore able to respond quickly with disaster relief, reports MNN.

MAF staff in Haiti know the terrain well. In the year 2008 alone, MAF executed 3,410 flights and transported 935,748 pounds of cargo, providing access to the Gospel, to basic health services and to education. When disaster hit mid-January, MAF was prepared.

As soon as the earthquake hit, MAF was at the Port-au-Prince airport playing a central role in the reception of supplies as the airport was inundated with aid.

MAF has been working closely with disaster relief group Operation Blessing to distribute food, medical supplies and other aid. MAF has partnered with Operation Blessing in the past to deliver disaster relief to tsunami victims in Indonesia in 2004 and to victims of other smaller earthquakes since.

"Without (MAF's) help, we really wouldn't be so well positioned to be able to respond and save lives," noted David Darg, Director of International Disaster Relief for Operation Blessing.

Throughout the last few weeks, MAF has provided assistance for several ministries. The U.S. military and USAID have entrusted MAF with aid and supplies to distribute. Already, MAF has been able to transport 500,000 pounds of cargo along with 2,500 passengers in Haiti, while also providing 100 water purification systems and 1,100 pounds of rice and beans to the remote Anse Rouge in northwestern Haiti.

Mission Aviation Fellowship has provided the hope of Christ for decades in Haiti. Pray that the Lord would use their knowledge of the region and expertise in disaster relief here again so that many Haitians may see the hand of Christ working in their country.
