World Congress of Families dismayed by attack on marriage

“If Mexico City institutes homosexual ‘marriage’, as it’s expected to do on March 4, it will be another body blow to the institution of marriage and the natural family,” said Larry Jacobs, Managing Director of the World Congress of Families (WCF), reports World Congress of Families.

Under the law passed on December 22, 2009, by the Federal District of Mexico City, same-sex couples will be allowed to “marry” and adopt children.

The measure is vigorously opposed by Mexico’s President Felipe Calderon and the Catholic Church. In his final homily of 2009, Mexico City’s Cardinal Norberto Rivera Carrera declared, “Today, the family is under attack in its essence by the equivalence of homosexual unions with marriage between a man and a woman.”

Jacobs observed: “These marriage substitutes degrade the family and deny children the right to a mother and father. The Federal District of Mexico City is essentially saying that any two people who are living together can designate themselves a family and have that arrangement endorsed by the state. After homosexual marriage, can group marriage be far behind? Anti-family forces are intent on undermining the family, by attacking its uniqueness and denying children their biological mothers and fathers.”

Homosexual couples can’t procreate. Children they adopt are raised in an environment lacking either a female or a male role model – so necessary for successful socialization – and subject to a variety of psychological harms.

Dawn Stefanowicz, a Canadian woman raised by her father and his homosexual lover, has written of the emotional trauma of children brought up in these alternative families (www.dawnstefanowicz.com). Stefanowicz discloses: “From a young age, I was exposed to explicit sexual speech, self-indulgent lifestyles, varied GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual and Transgendered) subcultures and gay vacation spots. Sex looked gratuitous to me as a child. I was exposed to all-inclusive manifestations of sexuality including bathhouse sex, cross-dressing, sodomy, pornography, gay nudity, lesbianism, bisexuality, minor recruitment, voyeurism and exhibitionism.” Click here (http://www.afajournal.org/2005/august/805Stefanowicz.asp) for Stefanowicz’s article, “Eyewitness to Debauchery,” in the August 2005 American Family Association Journal. The Mexican group Red Familia (the Family Network, www.redfamilia.net) – also a WCF Partner and co-organizer of World Congress of Families III (2004) in Mexico City – is in the process of collecting 50,000 signatures against the Mexico City move. Jacobs concluded: “The fight for marriage in Mexico City is the fight for marriage everywhere. The international pro-family movement must support Red Familia and others opposed to undermining the natural family.”

The Mexico City Declaration (2004) and The Amsterdam Declaration, adopted by delegates at the conclusion of World Congress of Families V (August 10-12, 2009, in the Netherlands), call for “sound laws and policies that will support the natural institution of marriage.” Both are in agreement with The Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted universally by the United Nations in 1948, which declares that, “The family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the state.”
