Belarus: New Life church pastor met with the US Ambassador
On February, 20 pastor Slava Goncharenko was invited to the USA Embassy where he met with the US Ambassador in Belarus Karen Stuart.
Pastors and ministers of Protestant churches and representatives of ‘Belarusian Christian Democracy’ party were also invited to the meeting, reports New Life church press centre.
In the course of the conversation the issue of freedom of conscience in Belarus was discussed and in particular, the Campaign «Protecting the rights of freedom of conscience». There was also touched the question of the current situation of New Life church: the Supreme Economic Court and Leonid Gulyako, the Assignee of religions and nationalities affairs refused to resolve the conflict between the church and Minsk City Executive committee and the Public Prosecutor’s Office threatened with crime proceedings.
Ambassador Karen Stuart noted that she would continue to keep track of events around New Life church and the course of the Campaign «Protecting the rights of freedom of conscience». It needs to be said that it is because of Karen Stuart’s work the information about the real state of things in religious sphere in Belarus is announced in the annual report of the US State Department.
The participants of the meeting shared their opinions regarding future cooperation.
