Christians of Bearus made an appeal to the world community
Representatives of different religious and public organizations have signed an Appeal to the world community in the context of the Campaign «Protecting the rights of freedom of conscience», reports New Life church press centre.
In particular it says: «One of the basic human rights – the right of freedom of conscience – is systematically violated in Belarus. Believers endure pressure and prosecution for their convictions together with some religious unions that consider Christian values their supreme principles.
The reason of it all is the discriminating state policy in the religious sphere which also caused the current religious legislation in Belarus that contravenes Belarusian Constitution and all international rules and standards in this field».
Representatives of religious and public organizations have turned to the world community asking to help Belarusian citizens in their fight for rights. And exactly: to initiate analysis of the current legislation of Belarus in the field of freedom of conscience, and analyze the alternative legislative draft developed by the public community of Belarus.
The Appeal is also asking the world community in their evaluation of democracy development in Belarus to consider the degree of respecting the right of freedom of conscience as one of the initial standards equally with the right to elect leaders, the right of freedom of speech, the rights of public organizations, etc.
The Appeal was claimed at the Press-conference that took place on February, 25 in the context of the Campaign «Protecting the rights of freedom of conscience».
The Appeal will be passed through different diplomatic channels.
