Mexico church faces violent reaction for defending marriage

The Catholic Church in Mexico has faced a violent reaction from homosexualists in the country who are upset over the Mexican bishops’ strong defence of natural marriage, reports Agenzia Fides.

In response, the Archdiocese of Mexico has denounced what the bishops have labelled anti-Catholic “intolerance,” reports Patrick B. Craine, LifeSiteNews.com.

"The insults and accusations against the Catholic Church and its ministers have multiplied in recent days, not only from several politicians of the Federal District, but also among many analysts and media commentators, who have expressed the degree of intolerance that has been reached in Mexico," the Archdiocese stated yesterday.

Cardinal Norberto Rivera Carrera, the Archbishop of Mexico City, has spoken out strongly against Mexico City's gay “marriage” and homosexual adoption legislation, which passed just before Christmas, and is now before the city's governor, Marcelo Ebrard, for approval. According to Cardinal Rivera, the legislation is “perverse and immoral,” and will “lead the society inevitably to ruin.” Homosexual adoption, he said further, is “inadmissible.”

The Mexican Bishops' Conference has also risen to defend true marriage, declaring solidarity with Cardinal Rivera in his efforts. According to Bishop Victor Rene Rodriguez, secretary general of the conference, the bishops have expressed support for Cardinal Rivera and for “any action that the Archdiocese of Mexico will take in relation to this argument, which is a source of controversy in society and within the family."

The Archbishop of Guadalajara, Cardinal Juan Sandoval Iniguez, has also commented, saying that the approval of same-sex “marriage” is regrettable. Further, said the Cardinal, homosexual adoption “is the most absurd thing, because it is seriously damaging to the adopted child, as it completely distorts his capacity of identity.”
