A long-awaited outreach of the Moscow Good News Church - a school to raise up skilled and effective prayers within the church - has finally been launched, Christian Telegraph and Rick Renner Ministries report. Last week Prayer School hit the ground running. Katherine Dickerson, American missionary and assistant to Denise Renner, began to see a dream fulfilled last Monday night as she began the school of prayer that the Holy Spirit had put on her heart some time ago.
The school started with a near-capacity class, packing 83 students into the large hall at the church office building. Katherine was shocked by the size of the class, having set up only 25 chairs for the anticipated number of students. And the large number of attendees wasn't the only notable thing about this Prayer School class. Most of the students also arrived with a tangible sense of excitement and anticipation, having looked forward for months to this opportunity to grow more in prayer.
After beginning in prayer, Katherine spent some time explaining what the students can expect and what she will be expecting from them. She emphasized that this is a school, not a prayer meeting - and as such, there will be homework assignments and regular attendance expectations.
This class will train people who want to grow in their personal prayer lives, as well as teach them how to pray with other believers. It will also develop and raise up prayer leaders who can in turn train others in effective prayer. Katherine will mentor the students through precept and example, with the first hour reserved for teaching and the second for praying. In return for their faithful work and effort in the class, Katherine guaranteed the students that they would grow steadily in spiritual strength, becoming very powerful pray-ers and a great threat to the devil.
Several homework assignments were given. Every day each student is to pray in tongues for 30 minutes; read a chapter in the Bible from the weekly Bible Reading Chart; and pray the Ephesians prayers as many times as they have the opportunity.
For this initial class, Katherine started with the basics, teaching on the authority we have in Christ. She explained to the students that once they understand who they are in Christ and how much authority they have in the spiritual realm, they will be able to enforce the defeat of Satan. She also shared the power and importance of praying the prayers found in the first and third chapters of Ephesians, relating how Rev. Kenneth E. Hagin often said that praying those prayers for himself was probably the single most important thing leading to his tremendous spiritual growth.
In the second hour of this first Prayer School class, the corporate prayer was powerful as everyone focused in unison on salvation for the lost. Katherine and Rimma (the Prayer Director of the Moscow Good News Church) led prayer as the students all joined in. Katherine sensed that there would be many prayers for the lost in upcoming Prayer School sessions. Of course, she will stay yielded to the leading of the Holy Spirit and will teach the students to follow His leading in prayer as well.
The students left that first Prayer School class on fire! They are so eager to grow in their prayer lives. Anyone listening to Katherine's anointed teaching about the power and effectiveness of the Ephesians prayers would no doubt start praying them as soon and often as possible. Katherine later commented that while she taught that first session, she sensed as strong an anointing on her as she has ever experienced when teaching the Word.
