Homeschool group helps raise money for Bible translation

Today there are more than 2,000 languages that still don't have their own translation of the Bible. Many of these speakers have never heard the message of salvation. Many of them have no idea what Christ did for them when He came to earth as a baby. They have never heard about His sacrifice on the cross, reports MNN.

Thanks to a group of homeschool families, two language groups are closer to being able to read the entire Bible in their own language.

A group of homeschoolers who uses Sonlight Curriculum made it happen through the OneVerse | Sonlight Project with The Seed Company. Jonathan Kern with The Seed Company says this group of homeschool families raised over $250,000 for Bible translation. "The Sonlight Publishers invited their homeschool families to register in the OneVerse | Sonlight Project, and Sonlight Publishers matched their gift dollar-for-dollar, up to $125,000."

Gifts of nearly $126,000 from about 1,200 families helped make the program successful.

According to Kern, the funding provided helped translate a significant amount of Scripture for "the Meeto people from Mozambique. And the entire New Testament was funded verse-by-verse. Just north of the Meeto people are the Ning people out of Tanzania. And a quarter of the New Testament was funded verse by verse."

The Seed Company is celebrating and thanking God that two entire people groups, representing over 1.5 million speakers, will begin to hear the Word of God in their own language.

This is the first time the Seed Company has done anything like this before. Kern says they've learned a lot during the first project. "We've made some adjustments, and we are rolling out OneVerse | Kids Discover, which is now open to a much-wider audience than just the Sonlight families."

Pre-registration is already under way, and the program will start in February. Kern describes the program: "They would register. We would send them a welcome kit. Then each week, for eight weeks, we have curriculum that is delivered on-line. There are stories, activities for elementary, junior high and families. Then, families who wish to participate financially can fund the translation of one or more verses for the people group that we select for the Kids Discover Program in the Spring."
