In his interview with journalists after a meeting with Patriarch Aleksii II, Ukraine’s President remarked upon their discussion as ”a sincere and open dialogue.” “I am pleased with our conversation,” stated Victor Yushchenko. The presidential press service made public this information on 21 February 2008, reports RISU. According to the president, during the meeting, he expressed his gratitude to the patriarch for requiems held in Moscow and other regions of Russia for innocent victims of Holodomor (man-made famine in Ukraine 1932-33) and political repressions.
