Catholic Radio Network starts media training for the youth in Sudan
Sudan Catholic Radio Network on Monday started its training program for media staff with an assessment exam on English competence for candidates, reports CISA News.
The radio network established the Comboni Media Training Centre in Juba to prepare people to work in its radio stations.
SCRN directress Sr Paola Moggi told Bakhita Radio that the training aims at developing the candidates’ skills in radio production.
“The Comboni Media Training Centre tries to give a systematic training in radio production to some candidates sent by the Sudan Catholic Radio Network and also to some other institutions like, Budi Media, in the area of Eastern Equatoria”, Sr Paola said.
She added: “It is the first training session; it is a pilot study. But the idea is to help these young people develop their talent and their competence in radio production.”
The Comboni Media Training Centre offers two preliminary courses in English and computers to candidates who need to strengthen their basic skills to enrol in the media course.
Self-awareness, sociology and ethics are the foundational courses, Sr Paola said, followed by courses in professional skills like news gathering and broadcasting, radio production, media ethics and law.
Nine candidates have enrolled for the course: two from Nuba Mountains, one from Rumbek, two from Yei, two from Torit, three from Bakhita Radio and two from Budi media.
The Comboni Media Training Centre aims at providing a solid foundation for further studies in communication.
The Sudan Catholic Radio Network is an initiative of the Comboni Institutes. It plans to establish eight FM radio stations in Southern Sudan and Nuba Mountains within two years. Presently, only Bakhita Radio is on air in the Archdiocese of Juba. Yei and Torit will come next.
