Faith groups 'disappointed' about England's sex education rules

The Muslim Council of Britain and the education wing of the Roman Catholic Church in England and Wales have expressed concern about a government plan for mandatory sex education in schools for children under the age of 16, reports Ecumenical News International.

"It will cause difficulty," said Shahid Akmal, chairperson of the Muslim council's education committee, noting that some parents might withdraw their children from the compulsory classes in defiance of the regulations.

"I cannot condone people breaking the law but it will be an individual decision and some parents will feel that it's the only option open to them," Akmal stated.
