Swiss vote on banning minarets fuels national debate on Islam

Although there are more than 300 000 Muslims and about 150 mosques in Switzerland, the country has only four minarets, reports Ecumenical News International.

On 29 November Swiss voters will vote on whether to add one sentence to the Swiss constitution: "The construction of minarets is prohibited." Debate on the referendum has triggered months of heated debate on Islam at town hall meetings and in the media.
