The leader of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Australia, Bishop Irinej, has urged the Australian government to revoke its recent recognition of Kosovo, warning that the territory's declaration of independence will produce a rise in terrorism and create further instability in the Balkans, reports Ecumenical News International. In a letter to the newly elected Prime Minister of Australia, Kevin Rudd, which he shared with Ecumenical News International, Bishop Irinej says, "The recognition of Kosovo as an independent entity violates every established norm of International Law concerned with State creation."
