Zimbabwe Christian group warns on 'unity' government

An alliance of Christians in Zimbabwe has appealed to Southern African regional leaders to take action to salvage the country's power-sharing government and prevent bloodshed after Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai suspended contact with President Robert Mugabe and his party, reports Ecumenical News International.

"We, the Zimbabwe Christian Alliance, received the news of the fallout between [Tsvangirai's] Movement for Democratic Change and [Mugabe's] Zimbabwe African National Union - Patriotic Front with concern," the group said in a 25 October statement.

"To us this may indicate the first step towards the disintegration and failure of the inclusive government," stated the grouping that includes Roman Catholics, Protestants, Anglicans, Evangelicals and Pentecostals.
