Christian girl raped in Andhra Pradesh state, India

According to information received by ANS from the Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC), Karuna, a 20-year-old Christian girl, was raped by a 24-year-old man at around 7.00 pm on October 10, in the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh state, India, reports James Varghese, special correspondent in India for ASSIST News Service.

After the incident, at about 10.30 pm, police were informed about what had happened and the people there requested to lodge a complaint against the culprit. But the police did not accept the report. It had come to light that the culprit along with the villagers, “managed things” with the police not to register a complaint.

But on October 15, GCIC with the help of a local media and human rights cell went to the police station again. The police then recorded the complaint, but they have taken no action so far.

It was also known that the police, as well as the villagers, are threatening the people who went to lodge the complaint against the culprit.

The lives of the victim Karuna and her family members are at stake, as there is no protection for their lives.

GCIC has approached the National Commission for Women to take appropriate action and to direct the state government to extend financial assistance and protection to the victim and her family.
