Recent survey reveals insight into 5 major religions
The Elijah Interfaith Institute will be hosting the Fourth Meeting of the Elijah Board of World Religious Leaders in Israel from October 18-22. Over 50 religious leaders from around the world will be participating, representing Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism and Sikh, reports Elijah Interfaith Institute in its press release. Representatives from the Vatican and of the Dalai Lama will be in attendance. Previous meetings were held in Spain, Taiwan and India, and this year’s event is being hosted by the Municipality of Haifa.
Under the event theme, “The Future of Religious Leadership”, the results of a survey conducted August-September 2009 will be released, showing how members of different religions view their religious leadership. Details of the survey will be revealed over the 4 day conference.
The survey results demonstrate to religious leaders that they face the same challenges in different religions, and their followers want interfaith conversation. According to Elijah’s Executive Director Rabbi Alon Goshen-Gottstein, “The poll’s results will create a deep sense of fraternity between religious leaders, as their followers sense that religious leaders should engage in interfaith conversation. Moreover, it helps religious leaders see that there is room for collaboration.”
