Bells ring out for Premier Christian Radio station launch
Church bells across the UK are ringing out every day this week to celebrate Premier Christian Radio winning the first national broadcasting slot for a religious station on DAB, reports Peter Wooding, special to ASSIST News Service.
Churches from Southampton to Scotland, including Winchester, Leicester, Suffolk, Lincoln, Ipswich, Newbury, Norwich and Landaff, will ring their bells in a show of support and celebration for the first national DAB Christian radio station.
Premier Christian Radio, who have broadcast in greater London for almost 15 years and who began broadcasting nationally on Monday 21 September, have teamed up with The Central Council of Bell Ringers and The Ringing World Magazine to share the news that, for the first time, Christian radio will be available nationally on DAB radio.
Dr John Sentamu, Archbishop of York told Premier Christian Radio: "Welcome to Premier Christian Radio nationwide. What took you so long? It's good to know that your special blend of broadcasting will now reach the parts it never used to reach."
Bishop of Bristol, Mike Hill, also shared his excitement, "I am absolutely delighted that Premier is going national, it can now keep up the good work not only in London, but nationwide – extending the reach of Christian debate, news and entertainment to everybody in the country."
Premier Christian Radio broadcasts a range of Christian debate and teaching programmes for the whole of the Church, Christian music and national and regional news from a Christian perspective.
"This is an historic moment, for radio and for Christians across the country who have expressed a need for a permanent nation Christian radio station for years. The hard work, prayers and faith of our staff and supporters has paid off," said Premier CEO Peter Kerridge.
