Pastor attacked and beaten up by Hindu radicals in India

The violence against Christians in India continues unabated with the latest news that a pastor was attacked and beaten by a group of Hindu radicals at a village called Yellareddygudam, Nalagonda district in Andhra Pradesh state, India, on Sunday, September 20, 2009, reports Jacob Philip, assistant correspondent in India for ASSIST News Service.

According to the website of the Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC) -- www.persecution.in -- this latest incident took place, as Pastor Vanamala Parishuddam, 40, along with his family and few believers were returning home after a Sunday morning worship service at around 11.45 am.

The news source said that on their way back home, four Hindu radicals on two motor cycles stopped all of them and started to beat up the pastor with wooden sticks.

The Hindu radical attackers had veiled their faces and soon after the vicious attack, they escaped, leaving the profusely bleeding from head wounds and shortly after this, he collapsed.

The website then reported that the pastor’s wife, Prasanna, and two other believers carried the pastor to nearest hospital and eventually he had nine stitches inserted on his head wound.

The news source reported that the pastor’s condition is “very serious” and he is still under medical treatment in the hospital.

On the morning of September 21, 2009, the pastor’s brother lodged a complaint against the Hindu radicals at the nearest police station.

Pastor Parishuddam, who is married and he and his wife have two children, works for an organization called Gospel Ministry and has been ministering in this village for the past four years. About 30 families gather for the Sunday services.

GICC has requested prayers for the pastor’s “speedy recovery.”
