Lisa R. Gibson, an American attorney, Executive Director of the Peace and Prosperity Alliance (PPA) and author of the book “Life In Death: A Journey From Terrorism To Triumph,” who lost her brother Ken on the 1988 terrorist bombing of Pan Am flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, has given a surprise response the “Lockerbie bomber” being freed from jail, reports Dan Wooding, founder of ASSIST Ministries.
Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi, 57, was jailed in 2001 for the atrocity which claimed 270 lives in 1988 and has now left prison after he was freed on compassionate grounds by the Scottish Government.
Scottish Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill revealed that the Libyan, who has terminal prostate cancer, would be allowed to return to his homeland.
The BBC says that it understands he will be flown to Tripoli on a specially chartered plane due to leave Glasgow.
Gibson, a committed Christian, told ANS, “The Scottish governments decision to release Megrahi on compassionate grounds so that he may die with dignity is a more honorable response than we could ever expect.
“At the heart of terrorism is hate and to respond in love in compassion toward a man convicted of taking so many lives, is truly the road less traveled. Megrahi was convicted, the country of Libya accepted responsibility and paid civil damages.
“From the world¹s perspective justice was served. Ultimately, true justice will only come when this case is litigated in heavens courtroom. If he was truly responsible, God will right the wrong and bring justice.”
She added, “The decision Scottish Cabinet Secretary for Justice is a very Christian response of responding in love, compassion and mercy to someone who has acted in hate and evil. I have committed my life to overcoming this act of evil with good, by reaching out in service and compassion to, Libya, the country found responsible. Responding in love and compassion is a much more powerful weapon than hate ever will be.”
