Food program to be terminated in Kenya, ministry steps in
A school feeding program in Kenya is still afloat despite its scheduled termination, reports MNN.
Due to the economic crisis, the feeding program in Nairobi, Kenya at Mathare Community Outreach was to end in June 2009.
However, Bright Hope International was informed about the situation and began an aggressive attempt to save the program that feeds 1,400 school children. They knew that the success of the school had critical ties to the continuation of the feeding program.
By making many calls to government organizations, private and corporate donors and churches, funding was obtained to continue the program, thanks to partnerships with World Food Program, Feed My Starving Children, and Compassion Canada.
In addition, this year's Run for the Hungry Children fundraiser designated all funds raised for the program in Kenya. The event was held in four locations with over 1500 people in attendance. $124,000 was raised.
Praise God for the generosity of His followers and for the provision that He provided through larger world feeding programs.
Bright Hope assists orphans and children in Mathare Valley, Nairobi, in partnership with Outreach Community Church and Mathare Community Outreach. The orphanage has over 300 children, and the schools provide education to 1200. Classes include pursuing higher education and vocational classes in carpentry, sewing, and automobile repairs. There is also special training for those who want to become pastors, social workers, and community developers.
The vocational training is a part of the rehabilitation of prostitutes, drug addicts and armed robbers, who after accepting Jesus Christ, need a path that leads them out of the old way of supporting themselves.
