Aged 60, WCC meets to discuss 21st century challenges

The main governing body of the World Council of Churches, its central committee, is meeting in Geneva from 13 to 20 February during which it will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the 1948 founding of what is now the world's largest Christian grouping, reports Ecumenical News International. WCC leaders say, however, that the Geneva-based church grouping faces significantly different challenges than it did in 1948, in the years that followed the end of the Second World War, and a representative of the council's single largest financial backer says it is falling to make its presence sufficiently felt while it also faces decreased funding.
