Assemblies of God suffers two fatalities after deadly tornadoes
Deadly storms and tornadoes swept through the south on Tuesday night, killing at least 50 people in Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky and Alabama, reports Jeremy Reynalds, correspondent for ASSIST News Service.
According to a news release from the Assemblies of God (AG), the group’s Arkansas District suffered the loss of retired minister Archie York and his wife Catherine of Cleveland, Arkansas.
In addition, the AG said the district reported that three AG families in Atkins, Arkansas, had lost their homes.
According to the AG, members of the Convoy of Hope disaster response team are currently in Tennessee and Arkansas assessing the damage. They say that entire communities have been leveled. The team has contacted the AG district offices, and is working with them to determine the best response.
The AG reported that by Wed. morning, the denomination’s Alabama, Kentucky and Tennessee districts had received no reports concerning loss of life or any major damage to AG churches.
The AG’s National Prayer Center has also committed to praying for the victims of the tornadoes on Thursday, February 7, from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. (CT).
