US Baptist Group to host banquet focusing on human rights
Tony Campolo, professor emeritus at Eastern University in Pennsylvania, and founder of the Evangelical Association for the Promotion of Education, will be the keynote speaker at a 'Window on the World' banquet on Saturday, February 28, in Arlington, Virginia, near Washington, DC, reports Michael Ireland, chief correspondent, ASSIST News Service.
The banquet, with the theme "Let justice roll down like waters," is being organized by the Baptist World Alliance (BWA) and will be held at the Sheraton National Hotel. It will focus on human rights and religious freedom.
The Evangelical Association for the Promotion of Education is an organization that develops schools and social programs in several Two Thirds World countries and in cities across North America.
The BWA General Council decided in July 2008 to create a new Division of Freedom and Justice to address issues of human rights and religious liberty. The office for the division was established on September 1, 2008.
Special music will be provided by the Shiloh Baptist Church choir from Washington, DC, the Korean Children’s Choir from South Korea, and Yooran Anna Lee, a noted soprano who teaches in the Department of Worship and Music Studies at Liberty University in Virginia.
BWA President David Coffey and General Secretary Neville Callam will attend the banquet. During the event, special prayers will be offered by various Baptist leaders from around the world, including the BWA regional secretaries for Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America.
