Ukraine launches a new political party, the Party of the Righteous
On 18 January 2008 a group met in Kyiv to initiate the creation of a new political party, the Party of the Righteous, reports RISU. An organizational committee was formed with the task of preparing and conducting a meeting to officially found the party.
Organizational committee members include representatives from civic organizations, lawyers and the mass media. The announcement was made by New Christian World and distributed through the press service of the Righteousness Movement.
Organizers discussed the necessity of creating in Ukraine a political power which is able to uphold Christian values in Ukrainian politics and society. It was unanimously agreed to create the Righteous Political Party. Those present duly prepared and signed the declaration.
The declaration states that the Righteous Party was being formed in order that “the government’s system and laws conform maximally to the principles of the Bible, its teachings, and the natural laws which the Lord proclaimed in defense of God’s interests and those of the moral and spiritual values of the Ukrainian people, for the protection of the rights and freedoms of Ukrainian citizens.” Party members also set themselves the task of taking a stand against “acts which are incompatible with Christian morality leading to a greater decline of society into an immoral and godless abyss.”
