Ministry provides humanitarian aid to Dallas homeless

Dallas-based Operation Care worked with Buckner International ministry Shoes for Orphan Souls recently to show God's love to the homeless. The organizations distributed humanitarian aid and shared the Gospel with homeless people from the Dallas area, reports MNN.

"We were happy to serve the homeless in our community," said Rachel Garton, director of Shoes for Orphan Souls. "Shoes are a big necessity, especially in the winter time, and even more so for people without a home."

5,000 shoes were distributed to needy children and adults at the event.

"We only had 300, and it wasn't enough for the event," said Susie Jennings, president and founder of Operation Care. "I called Andrew and said, 'I need shoes!' "

People were offered manicures, haircuts, coats, a hot meal, toiletries, Bibles and many other services and opportunities. Operation Care gathered hundreds of volunteers who distributed items, offered family reconciliation services, and shared the Gospel.

"Rachel and I were blessed to serve during the afternoon shift," said Matt Asato, humanitarian aid coordinator for Shoes for Orphan Souls. He and his wife Rachel volunteered to help distribute shoes and wash people's feet. "It's definitely an awesome ministry that serves the least of these in our own backyard."
