Democrats want special land privileges for Ukraine churches
Religious organizations should be excluded from the general procedures for renting property and land that is part of government and communal property in competitive auctions, reports RISU. National Deputy V. Marushchenko, first assistant to the head of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), included this proposal among others in an address to the prime minister of Ukraine.
According to Marushchenko’s address, if such procedures are maintained, religious institutions, which are non-profit, will be on an unequal footing with commercial structures, and so they will not be able to receive land on which to build worship buildings.
Marushchenko previously brought up this question while discussing the 2008 government budget in Parliament on 28 December 2007.
Marushchenko also proposes that religious organizations should be exempt from a tax on bringing religious literature into Ukraine which was established with the 2005 government budget.
