Ministry in India feels first shocks of anti-Christian violence

U.S. President George Bush met with India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Pressure was on for Bush, who has openly addressed his faith, to address the growing tension and violence between Christians in India and the anti-Christian movement, reports MNN.

One of the parties responsible for the unrest is the Bajrang Dal Movement--a religious faction of the second most-powerful Bharat Janatha political party. According to a news report, 45 Christians have been killed by Hindu fanatics in the past month, and 50,000 people have fled their homes.

Grace Ministries International (GMI) felt the impact of the violence last week that has been plaguing other parts of the country for some time. They have pastors in Hyderabad who are involved in evangelistic outreach programs. On their way to surrounding villages, the pastors were attacked by a small gang who threw their Bibles on the ground, tore their tracts and destroyed their motorcycles. The gang threatened the pastors' lives.

In another incident, fanatics invaded the home of a believer, disrupting a meeting of pastors. The pastors were warned never to return to the village, and the next day, the family who lived in that home was evicted.

Nerves are stretched, and anxiety has increased, for obvious reasons. GMI asks that you join Indian believers in their prayers for peace.
