US Orthodox church offers Scriptures to Greek fire survivors

The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and the American Bible Society have announced a project providing more than 10 000 copies of the Christian New Testament to survivors of fires that swept through Greece in 2007, reports Ecumenical News International. "Supporting such vital programmes as this tangibly demonstrates the Church's concern for both the physical and spiritual well-being of everyone," said Archbishop Demetrios, head of the 1.5 million-member US denomination, in a 10 January statement.
