Local missionary: Government will not offer help to Indian Christians
Christian Telegraph has been following the news about violent attacks on Christians in Indian state of Orissa. The government does nothing to stop persecution that started after killing of Hindu extremist leader Laxmanananda Saraswati and four of his disciples in Orissa state on Aug. 23. Radical Hindus claim that Christians murdered their leader.
As EFI News reports the fundamentalist group is going from village to village destroying Churches, burning houses, attacking and killing Christians. It is reported that thousands of extremists have been brought from Gujarat and Chhattisgarh to perpetrate this violence which has spread to all the districts of Orissa. Their agenda is to wipe out Christians and Christianity from India starting from Orissa.
A local Missionary named Andrew, whose full name we do not reveal for the sake of his security and security of his family and fellow pastors, gave his comments on the situation in India to Christian Telegraph. “Our Indian government is very passive when it comes to helping the Christians who are killed and persecuted,” says Andrew. “It is not the first time, but it always never gets any media attention unless it is a well known person or a foreigner like Brian Staines from Australia who was burned in his jeep. Police are paid bribes from big business people who instigate such violence so that they turn the other side when such violence takes place. Christians are not seeking police help at all as they take them to jail under false accusations by the attackers. Instead of prosecuting the attackers, they put the Christians in jail and interrogate them and ask them to pay fines and some time take bribes to let them out. Nothing would work with the Government of Orissa because it is known to the people that they do not offer help or considerations to Christians. The only thing that would help now is to pray that the Lord helps the people of Orissa. We need to pray for the attackers that they will see some supernatural things and run away from the Christians. Our country though democratic with religious freedom still has to come a long way in granting this freedom to the minorities.”
