Student groups that have the backing of three Christian organizations have called for the mass mobilisation of their fellow Zimbabweans to force the regime of Robert Mugabe to respect the wishes of the people, and for South African President Thabo Mbeki to be removed as the mediator seeking a solution to their country's political crisis, reports Ecumenical News International. "He [Mbeki] has failed to help bring a solution and since now he is the chair of SADC (the Southern African Development Community), there is a conflict of interest," said the 10 organizations representing mostly young Zimbabweans in a statement made available on 29 August.
