Leading The Way helps Yorkshire evangelist bring hope to the lost

Former drug addict Bruce Pearson is seeing his outreach to the some of most marginalized people in his community grow in a remarkable way, thanks to the impact of broadcast ministry, Leading The Way, reports Peter Wooding, Europe Bureau Chief for ASSIST News Service.

Bruce Pearson was completely without hope when he reached the lowest point of his life as a homeless drug addict and alcoholic in one of the toughest areas in Bradford, an industrial city in Northern England.

But his life was completely turned around after he heard the teaching program, Leading The Way with Dr. Michael Youssef on Premier Radio.

After listening to Dr. Youssef’s teaching, Bruce was set free from addiction and now ministers to the homeless and prostitutes in the Bradford community through his local church.

When Leading The Way sent a film crew to Yorkshire to capture how his life had been transformed, little did Bruce realize how much the impact of his ministry would grow not just in Bradford, but around the world.

“I got an email to say that my video testimony was going to be shown at Dr. Youssef’s church in Atlanta in America during their Sunday service, and could I watch it on the Internet,” explained Bruce.

He added: “So I got my laptop out and it’s the most surreal moment of my life. I’m sat in my bedroom in Bradford watching my testimony being shown about how my life was broken, how the Lord had saved my life. When it’s finished, there’s total silence in the church and Dr. Youssef got up and said how he was moved by it.”

Since Bruce’s testimony has been broadcast around the world, he has been overwhelmed by the response he has received: “To know that it’s been broadcast as a testimony of real hope of what the Lord can do is very humbling,” he stated.

“I’ve been blown away by the response my story has received. Recently I had two letters from women who heard my story and who wrote to me absolutely in despair, asking for help because they’ve got a family member with an addiction and they had nowhere else to turn.

“I’ve been sober just over four years and I work my heart out on the streets to reach out to people. I’m still the same old me. I don’t know how God can use that. My testimony got put on Facebook the other day and I went and had a look and I saw how many people had liked the page. I saw all the comments people had put after watching my testimony and these were people from Australia, Africa—I’m absolutely blown away that people have watched my story and are saying, ‘Look at what the Lord has done; the Lord is good.’”

Recently Bruce has been distributing Leading The Way Navigators, which are solar-powered audio players with the Bible and Dr. Youssef’s teaching messages translated into Arabic and Urdu, to the Muslims in his community.

“My primary ministry is working with homeless addicts and working girls, but what has happened since listening more and more to Dr. Michael Youssef’s teachings and ministry is reaching the Muslim community.

“Living in a city that is predominately Muslim now, my church has little pockets of ministry that are reaching out to different aspects of the Muslim community.

“So I asked for some Navigators. I thought there can be nothing better than having a Gospel message in Urdu and Arabic and being able to present this to somebody who would otherwise never have a chance of hearing it. Now I’ve got a way to get the Gospel into their hearts.

“As I’ve given out these Navigators, Muslim women have picked them up and taken them home. I’ve given them out to young Muslim men and I’m really praying, hoping and trusting that the word of the Lord will not go out and come back void.”

While Bruce’s testimony is unique, many new believers from very diverse backgrounds have similarly been impacted through the broadcast ministry of Leading The Way and are sharing their new-found faith in some of the most restricted parts of the world.
