Anglicans face divisions on women and homosexual clergy

A Church of England bishop has said he wants to go over to Rome because of his opposition to women bishops, while in a separate controversy about homosexuality, an openly gay US bishop said the Archbishop of Canterbury is in an "almost untenable" position in his attempts to hold together the worldwide Anglican Communion, reports Ecumenical News International. Bishop Andrew Burnham of Ebbsfleet, a Church of England cleric who administers parishes opposed to women priests, said in an interview with Britain's national broadcaster, the BBC, that he is awaiting a response from the Vatican following his request to Pope Benedict XVI and Roman Catholic leaders in England and Wales for advice on coming under Rome.
